Webinar

Can You Prove Your Mandatory Learning Actually Works?

Tuesday 15 September 2026 | 2.00PM (BST) | 60 Minutes

This webinar is hosted in conjunction with:

What does it take to move beyond tick-box training and create learning that truly changes behaviour?

Mandatory learning is designed to reduce risk. So why do organisations still see the same compliance failures, conduct issues and poor decisions? Employees complete the course, pass the assessment and receive the certificate. But completion isn’t competence. Nor does it prove people can apply what they’ve learned when it matters most.

Hosted by Philip Allen, Head of L&D at PIMFA and Learning Consultant at InnovateLearn, this 60-minute webinar brings together leading voices from compliance, neuroscience and organisational learning to challenge the traditional approach to mandatory training.

Dr Nigel Paine will explore why capability is built through continuous learning, workplace culture and leadership rather than training events alone. Professor Tricia Riddell will explain what neuroscience tells us about memory, forgetting and behaviour change. Debbie Ives will bring the practitioner perspective, sharing the realities of delivering mandatory learning in a regulated environment.

Together, they will examine how organisations can move beyond the tick box and create learning that builds lasting competence, better decisions and stronger performance.

What you’ll learn:

  • Why completion rates and assessment scores do not necessarily prove competence.
  • What neuroscience tells us about learning, memory and behaviour change.
  • How leadership and culture determine whether learning is reinforced or forgotten.
  • Why mandatory learning should be continuous, not treated as an annual event.
  • Practical ways to create learning that people remember and apply in their day-to-day work.
